Joel Weinstein represents a broad spectrum of clients that are successful in all areas of music, film, television and book publishing, including recording artists, songwriters, record producers, personal managers, authors, independent filmmakers, television producers, both independent and major record companies and music publishers. Joel provides transactional and advisory services concerning business development, purchase and sale of master recordings and musical composition catalogues, the creation of new enterprises, all aspects of music publishing, record distribution, talent management, artist recording, merchandising, licensing, financing, copyright and rights clearances.
Joel's Story
Several decades of working with top creative talent in the entertainment industry enables Joel to offer his clients the unique insights, valuable connections, and practical knowledge he has acquired from his extensive experience.
From 2001 to 2023, Joel served as a member of the Supervisory Board of Edel A.G., one of Europe’s leading independent media companies based in Hamburg, Germany. Edel A.G. owns record labels, book publishers and Optimal Media, the largest manufacturing plant in Europe for CDs, DVDs, CD ROMs and vinyl records, employing over 750 skilled people.
Joel previously practiced at the New York City law firm of Grubman, Indursky & Schinder and in 1989 formed a partnership with Bob Epstein and Mark Levinsohn that became Epstein, Levinsohn & Weinstein and later merged with the film practice of Sue Bodine and Andrew Hurwitz to form Epstein, Levinsohn, Bodine, Hurwitz & Weinstein. He established his own firm in 2007, and eventually transitioned to providing primarily entertainment business consulting services.
Before his retirement, Joel was admitted to the New York Bar and the Southern District of New York. He received his J.D. from New York Law School, where he served as Notes and Comments Editor of its Law Review and President of the Student Bar Association. He is also the recipient of a Masters Degree from New York University.
